Hyderabad: Shilpa Layout flyover to be soon open to public

In the coming days, the four-lane bi-directional flyover from Shilpa Layout to Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Gachibowli Junction will soon be open to the public. Besides installing street light poles, most of the civil works have been completed, including the bitumen layer on the flyover.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is calling the 956 meter-long and 16.60 meter-wide Shilpa Layout flyover an engineering feat under the State government’s ambitious Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

There are some spans of the flyover that are 18 meters above the ground and cross over the existing Gachibowli Flyover, making it unique from other such facilities.

The connectivity from Shilpa Layout to ORR will be drastically improved once this flyover is built. Additionally, the project will relieve traffic at Gachibowli Junction and enhance connectivity between Hitech City and Financial District.

Peak hour traffic on Shilpa Layout road in 2020 was 1,464 passenger car units (PCUs) per hour and is projected to be 5,194 PCUs in 2040.

With the flyover set to open soon, the GHMC has reportedly invited tenders for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of decorative lighting with dynamic illumination on both sides of the Shilpa Layout flyover, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) for a five-year period.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is attempting to solve the traffic issues in the city.

Telangana Municipal, IT and Industries minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) has taken all required measures to develop Greater Hyderabad as a global city and to strengthen the transportation system.

However, it was reported that there is a need to strengthen the transportation system in the areas surrounding Gachibowli and Madhapur, which have gained international fame in the fields of IT industries and real estate.
