In effort to boost revenue, TSRTC launches 100-day ‘Profit Challenge’

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) saw good revenue in 2022, almost a decade after incurring losses. It began the New Year on a high note, with a multi-pronged strategy to drive the corporation to profitability.

The authorities have now devised a 100-day ‘Profit Challenge’ for employees in order to increase bus traffic this year.

In 2022, the RTC was highly successful in generating profits from 26 of the State’s 98 bus depots. However, the top ten depots that are losing money are located in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.

In recent months, authorities have organized profit challenges for employees during various festive seasons such as Dasara, Raksha Bandhan, Deepavali, Sravana Masam, and others, which has helped increase revenue across many depots when compared to previous years.

Following the success of the initiative, management launched a three-month 100-day ‘Profit Challenge,’ creating a competitive atmosphere among bus depots and increasing profits.

RTC officials have instructed bus drivers and ticket conductors to gradually increase daily traffic and revenue as part of the challenge.

The Depot Managers were instructed and trained, and in turn, the bus drivers and conductors were trained on up to 15 verticals.

The officials stated that the staff of all bus depots is working to achieve a break-even profit for the corporation.

Currently, 26 bus depots were profitable, with 10 incurring daily losses of Rs.1 lakh, 10 incurring losses of less than Rs.2 lakh, and 20 other depots were on their way to getting profits.

According to officials, all the top 10 depots which were currently running in loss belong to the GHMC area. The focus now is on bringing the bus depots to profits, thus reducing the losses incurred by the corporation during the financial year.
