LIC agents plan nationwide movement against Central govt from Hyderabad

A new movement against the BJP-led Central government is set to take place in Hyderabad, signaling an increasing opposition to its policies.

On October 29, various unions and associations of LIC officers, employees and agents are scheduled to meet in Hyderabad to announce an action plan for a nationwide movement.

As per the reports, about 12 lakh officers, employees, and agents of LIC will discuss and finalize their plan for a nationwide stir. LIC officers, employees, and agents will also be able to present their demands to the union government regarding the Centre’s plans to privatize LIC as well as unilateral decisions against the LIC officers, employees, and agents.

Vice-chairman of the Telangana State Planning Board B Vinod Kumar said the TRS (BRS) Karmika (workers) wing would support LIC employees and agents in their fight against the Centre’s policies during a preparatory meeting for the national level meeting.

According to Vinod Kumar, the TRS (BRS) will expose the BJP government’s attempts to privatize public sector companies in a bid to hand over them to corporate firms.

In Tamil Nadu, members of the LIC Agents’ Association also held a protest, urging the Union government to extend pension and medical benefits, among other benefits. On Friday, the protest was held in front of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) office on Salai Road in Dindigul.

The protest was headed by its president N. Muthusamy.  Protesters chanted slogans demanding that commission rates for agents be raised and that pensions be provided. They demanded an end to the implementation of GST on policies, which has placed an additional burden on customers.

One of their other demands was an increase in the bonus for LIC policyholders, as well as the establishment of a welfare fund for LIC agents.
