New buses to be launched soon by CM KCR: TSRTC Chairman

There are expected to be about 50 new buses introduced soon by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao out of a newly acquired fleet of 300 buses by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

TSRTC Chairman Bajireddy Govardhan, who launched ‘Telangana on Track,’ a song about the corporation buses sung by Ram Miriyala, here on Wednesday, said the old buses would be phased out and new vehicles would be added over the next few months.

“In the first phase, 300 new buses are joining the fleet. Of them, 50 vehicles will be launched by the Chief Minister very soon,” he said.

The corporation was currently earning between Rs.14 and Rs.15 crore per day. He said that about 40 to 50 of the state’s 93 bus depots were now profitable and that efforts were being made to develop other depots as well.

The TSRTC Chairman stated that when he was given the task of reviving the corporation, he saw it as a challenge. “The Chief Minister, who was concerned about the corporation running into loss, encouraged me to take every possible step to make it a profitable company. The State government has also sanctioned huge funds,” adding that the corporation has nearly 50,000 employees and that approximately 75% of citizens use its buses.
