Recounting Applications of 6 Candidates in Bihar Rejected by ECI

Patna: Applications of six candidates who shouted recounting of votes for the recently concluded Bihar Assembly Elections were rejected by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

According to ECI, 11 seats are such where nail-biting finish occurred during counting on November 10 and the margin between triumph and defeat was under 1,000 votes.

Six out of these 11 candidates are not happy with the counting and they have opposed the decisions of returning officers.

Narendra Singh aka Bogo Singh, the candidate from Matihani has registered a complaint with ECI after Raj Kumar Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party defeated him with a margin of 333 votes. He has demanded recounting of all EVMs, VVPATs, and postal ballots.

Shakti Singh Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal RJD additionally complaint with ECI looking for recounting of EVMs, VVPATs, and postal ballots after he lost the election to Krishna Murari Sharan of Janata Dal-United with the margin of only 12 votes.

From Ramgarh Assembly constituency, RJD’s Sudhakar Singh defeated Ambika Singh of Bahujan Samaj Party with a margin of 189 votes. Ambika has registered a complaint to ECI looking for recounting of votes.

A comparable complaint has additionally received from losing candidates (second position) of Kurhani, Parbatta, and Dihari Assembly constituencies.

H.R. Srinivasa, the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar stated, “These applications are verified but their reasons are not turning out genuine. Therefore, under relevant sections of ECI rules, these applications are rejected for recounting.”

He included, “We have provided reasons details to every candidate in written format.”

The candidates have already alleged ECI for favoring one side to the candidates of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), huge numbers of them have been planning to challenge the decision of ECI in the court.

Prior, the RJD and Congress have claimed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has put pressure on returning officials of these constituencies.
