Students Become Teachers For “Under The Flyover” School in Delhi Amidst Online Education

While the coronavirus cases are constantly rising, it has forced the schools to shut down and conduct online classes. However, children from the underprivileged sections have no choice but to abide by the rules. Following this, some of the Delhi Samaritans have chosen to teach the less privileged children.

Students Run “Under the Flyover” Schools To Teach

Since it is not uncommon for the children of labourers and daily wage workers may not have access to online classes, some of the Delhi Samaritans have started to teach them. “Yamuna Khadar Pathshala” has started running a school to teach the kids from the nearby slum areas.

They currently have around 250 students who come there everyday to study. The “under the flyover” school is currently being run by six teachers who are also themselves students. One of these teachers teaching in this school goes by the name Panna Lal. He has done a one-year computer course. Another student is Devender, who is pursuing law.

The third teacher is Deepak Chaudhary. He is doing his MA and has done a two-year computer diploma. Fourth teacher is Rupam (BA Student) and fifth is Mukesh, class 12th graduate and has completed a one-year computer diploma. The last one is Dev Pal who has managed all the activities in the school.

These people are running the school to ensure that no child in that area has to miss out on education only because of the Covid 19 and lack of resources.

Panna Lal spoke to the media and said that he has been teaching the kids from the past one year now. And there are some problems because of which the students cannot attend the online classes.

Dev Pal also spoke to the media and said that they wanted to start this school in March last year. But couldn’t do it because of the nationwide lockdown. After some consideration, they started to teach students from Nursery to Class 10.

Teachers Also Faced Adversities In Their Personal Lives

Talking to the media, Dev Pal said that they have never put any kind of pressure over the parents or the students to demand a fee. The parents are free to do it whenever it is convenient for them.

He said that the teachers who teach here are also students. They have asked many to help with some basic requirements. They even requested people to come to the school and teach in case they are not able to help monetarily. But they haven’t received any help yet.

Furthermore, he said that the teachers have faced adversities in their personal lives. So they want to make sure that their students succeed in life.
