TRS, BJP spar as poor turn out seen in GHMC polls

Hyderabad: The polling for GHMC was started at a snail pace as the poor 25.34 percent
voters turn out was registered by 3 pm, and 18.20 by 1 pm, even as the polling saw some tussle among the BJP and the TRS activists in some locations.

Corona fear, holidays caused poor turnout by the City people in the prestigious turned GHMC polls.  Tension prevailed at Kukatpally,  Jangammet, Gopanpally, and other places as the BJP activists.

The BJP activists alleged that Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar in his car was distributing money to the voters.

The police took control of the protests by the BJP activists who got into a tussle with the TRS activists.  The local people have complained that about 3000 votes were missing, while as many as 800 votes were deleted someplace.

Votes were denied to some persons who came to vote as their names were depleted and the voter list still has the names of some dead persons.  The poll body and GHMC clarified that the names were not removed and were shifted to some other polling stations as part of the smooth conduct of the polls.

At a few places, the polls were held with some altercations while at most of the other polling stations the polls held peacefully.  As said that the city people have failed to show any interest to exercise their franchise and the turnout was very poor.

The main reasons for this are stated as most of the people went to their home districts and states due to three days of holidays.  Another big reason added to the problem is the corona pandemic.

The officials have made poll arrangements amid corona protocols in the polling stations.  Despite the main leaders of the ruling g party, and the opposition and cinema bigwigs turning out the city voters could not follow suit.
