Water board MD Dana Kishore says Hyderabad water sufficient for next 40 years

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) managing director Dana Kishore said that Hyderabad is water sufficient for the next 40 years.

Dana Kishore, speaking at the Telangana Infra Summit 2022 on the theme ‘Physical infrastructure and realty prospects and challenges,’ organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), citing an Oxford Cities report, stated that by 2030, among the 20 top growing cities in the world, 17 might be in India, with Hyderabad having a GDP of USD 85 billion.

“Telangana is one of the role model states in terms of better infrastructure such as a greenfield airport in 2009, Outer Ring Road by 2011-12, water projects, and metro rail. Land acquisition is a serious issue in road construction and cost overruns need to be taken into consideration, also disputes need to be resolved in 90 days,” said Managing Director and CEO of Re-sustainability Ltd., M Goutham Reddy.

Vice-Chairman, CII Telangana, C Shekar Reddy, stated that the state should encourage citizens to use water-saving devices.

Capacity of Hussain Sagar STPs to be doubled

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will double the capacity of the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) around Hussain Sagar Lake, inching closer to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department’s goal of making Hyderabad the first city in the country to treat 100% of the sewage generated.

The HMDA is augmenting and upgrading the existing 5 MLD, 20 MLD, and 30 MLD capacity STPs around Hussain Sagar Lake to 10 MLD, 40 MLD, and 60 MLD capacity as part of the exercise.

Tenders have already been invited for this environmental conservation measure, and the agency that is awarded the contract will be responsible for the tertiary treatment, including operation and maintenance (O&M), for a period of 20 years around Hussain Sagar Lake, as well as any associated infrastructure on the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
