Biden to Announce First Cabinet Picks on Tuesday

US-elect Joe Biden’s initial wave of Cabinet picks is expected on November 24 in the midst of the thick ongoing obstruction to the political transition from sitting president Donald Trump.

Biden has pushed forward with arrangements to assume the presidency on January 20, paying little mind to Trump’s attempts to undo the results of the November vote.

Biden’s chief of staff Ron Klain said to ABC News on Sunday: “You’re going to see the first of the president-elect’s cabinet appointments on Tuesday of this week.”

Post-election, Biden has guaranteed that his Cabinet will look like America and will be the most diverse in the country’s modern political history.

Discussions have been swirling about more glass ceilings that could be broken. Will Biden nominate a woman to direct the Pentagon, the Treasury, or the Department of Veterans Affairs? Furthermore being closely watched is whether Biden will pick an African American to direct Defence, the Interior Department or Treasury.

Biden’s running mate and now Vice President-elect Kamala Harris is the first woman, the first South Asian, and the first African American to ever emerge to the highest political office in the United States.

Many US news associations, including The New York Times and Bloomberg, said that the president will nominate a seasoned representative and long-time aide Antony Blinken as secretary of state.

Biden stated in televised comments in the previous week that he has already decided on his Treasury pick, somebody who will be agreeable  “for both the moderate and progressive sides of the party.”

Klain said plans for the January 20 initiation are likewise in progress, although it will be transformed by the public health imperative of still-raging pandemic, which has taken lives of more than a quarter-million Americans in 10 months.

Klain stated: “They’re going to try to have an inauguration that honors the importance and the symbolic meaning of the moment but also does not result in the spread of the disease. That’s our goal.”
